Mawlana Shaikh Feizel Chothia is an Islamic scholar, teacher, artist and author. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1970, Mawlana Feizel has been formally trained in Islamic jurisprudence, primarily the Hanafi School of Law. His approach is rooted in the classical normative Islamic tradition. He has served as Imam in numerous Mosques both in Australia and overseas and is actively engaged in Islamic education, interfaith dialogue, and community welfare and counselling services. His career as an Islamic scholar within the Western milieu as well as his cultural and institutional intimacy with Western communities places him at an adequate vantage point for addressing the challenging issues that concern both Muslims and non-Muslims alike in modern Australian society. Feizel lives in Perth with his family where he is presently engaged in a range of projects in Islamic education, culture and literature.
